Manchester United Join Bayern Munich In Race For €100m Defender

Manchester United priority in the upcoming transfer window would be to sign a centre-half and one name that could realistically be signed next summer is Dayot Upamencano.

The 20-year-old defender plies his trade for RB Leipzig and has made 20 appearances this season before going down to a knee injury. He is touted to be Bundesliga’s next big defensive figure, based off of the sheer talent he possesses on the field.

Standing at 6 feet 1 inch tall, Upamecano is as athletic as defenders can get these days, pacey life a fullback, technical like a midfielder and the strength to push off attackers with ease. He has been capped various times for France at youth levels.

His contract with Leipzig is set to last till the summer of 2021 and has a release clause worth £88m (€100m).

Bayern Munich are reported to be also monitoring the youngster which could easily lead to a heavy foot race between the two European giants.

Ole Solskjaer has managed to stabilise the United backline with Victor Lindelof hitting his best form for the Red Devils under the Norwegian head coach. Eric Bailly has also looked a whole lot better in recent times with backup options in Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

Adding Upamecano into the mix this early could definitely bolster the backline for next term.

Mourinho finds his next destination!

Jose Mourinho has accepted a 12-month prison sentence and a fine of close to €2.2 million after admitting to tax fraud in Madrid.

The former Manchester United manager has been found guilty of tax fraud like many other stars of football in Spain. Very recently another former Manchester United employee Cristiano Ronaldo was also found guilty of the same fraud in Spain while playing for Real Madrid.

Speaking to reporters outside court in Pozuelo de Alarcon in November 2017, Mourinho said: “I did not answer, I did not argue. I paid and signed with the state that I am in compliance and the case is closed.”

Before Jose fans start worrying however, where there beloved manager will spend next year, we can say for sure, that it will not be in prison despite the 12 month sentence!

This is because there is a rule in Spain that first time offenders punished by a crime with a sentence shorter than 24 months get a grant to pay fine and avoid jail time!

This allows Jose to stay scot free, despite a sizable loss in his finances, but more importantly he can choose a club of his liking instead of Madrid prison!

Reports from ESPN claim that Manchester United are readying up a contract offer for their academy starlet, Marcus Rashford in order to knock away rival interests.

The 21-year-old forward has hit a rich vein of form in recent months and the Red Devils hierarchy are prepared to give him a raise.

It has been only days since United extended Anthony Martial’s contract by another 5 years and now they are looking to move on their star attacker. Rashford has racked up 6 goals in the last 10 games under interim boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He even scored the winner and the only goal in the 0-1 away win to Leicester City which helped United upstage Arsenal in the Premier League standings.

Rashford is viewed as an integral part of the club’s future. His rise from just an academy prospect was seen to have stunted under Jose Mourinho but his recent form has proven otherwise.

The attacker simply needed a boost of confidence and to be allowed to spread his own wings. With his current deal set to end in another 17 months, Real Madrid have been closely monitoring Rashford for a potential summer move.

The report claims that bosses at Old Trafford are ready to offer the youngster a £150,000-per-week contract.

Thiago Silva Says Solakjaer Will Be Happy With PSG Defeat Against Lyon

0

Paris Saint Germain defender Thiago Silva has said that Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be happy with what he saw during the match between PSG and Lyon. The reigning Ligue 1 champions were defeated by 2-1 at the hands of Lyon, which also marked the end of their unbeaten run in the Ligue 1 this season.

Speaking to the media after the match, the PSG skipper and ace defender said, “Solskjaer must be happy with what he saw. We started the game well, but then we lost our concentration and did not have a good first half.”

He added, “For me, too, it was difficult. The second half was better but that was not enough. We missed a lot of things. We need to be more focused when we do not have the ball, for example. But do not be worried about us. Next Tuesday, in Manchester, it will be another competition, another environment, another atmosphere. In the meantime, we have to work between us to show something else. We will be facing a great team. Manchester United are on a run of nine wins in 10 games.”

According to the latest reports, Manchester United are comfortably in the lead for Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.

The 23-year-old’s growth has stunted in recent times which has drawn constant rumours of a Bernabeu exit. Spanish news outlet, Don Balon claims the Red Devils or any other interested party will be charged £105m for Asensio should they make any inquiries in the future.

Asensio has scored on 4 occasions this season and forwarded 5 assists in 27 games across all competitions. He has started 11 out of the 17 La Liga fixtures he was included in, missing out on all the games in January due to a muscle injury.

The attacking-midfielder made significant progress in his Madrid career under Zinedine Zidane but has seemingly fallen off the hype wagon under Santiago Solari. The Los Blancos as a whole have failed to meet expectations this season, dropping 8 points behind Barcelona in the La Liga title race.

Florentino Perez has been eyeing up a swoop of Premier League’s dynamic playmakers, Eden Hazard and Christian Eriksen. This is expected to be a highly costly affair and Madrid might be forced into offloading one of their valuable pieces, i.e., Asensio.

United are not too pleased with how much Alexis Sanchez has regressed since his transfer from Arsenal. He again failed to impress during the weekend showdown at the King Power Stadium, calling into the question the actual point of benching Anthony Martial to hand the Chilean a consecutive start.

With Juan Mata also rumoured to be heading for the Old Trafford exit door, United will require a second creative outlet beyond Paul Pogba to keep their offence ticking in the long run. Asensio is a versatile presence whose potential is still thought to be sky high.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer singled out Leicester City’s Harry Maguire after Manchester United’s 0-1 victory over the Foxes on Sunday evening.

The Red Devils broke the deadlock early on in the first half of the match through an incredible lobbed through ball from Paul Pogba and a calm composed finish from Marcus Rashford. Claude Puel’s men pushed for an equalizer throughout the match but their best chance fell on Maguire’s head late into injury time.

The England international was loitering in the opposition box and found himself open on goal off of a cross from Rachid Ghezzal from the right flank. Unfortunately, the header went wide off target and Leicester fell to a third consecutive defeat.

In the post-match conference, Solskjaer said, “When you’re only 1-0 up, anything can happen in that box. And I think that Harry Maguire has got a magnet on his head because it nearly always drops to him. A fantastic player in the box. So we knew we had to defend against him and out lads, they blocked, put their bodies on the line so it was a fantastic effort and they were fighting for each other.”

Maguire has long been linked with a move to Manchester United, being highly admired by former boss, Jose Mourinho. The 25-year-old has established himself as one of the finest centre-backs in the Premier League after making the switch from Hull City.

Solskjaer has been consulted by Ed Woodward regarding United’s transfer plans and the Norwegian might just slot in Maguire’s name back into the mix.

Juventus To Make a Move For Paul Pogba

Juventus To Make a Move For Paul Pogba

Juventus are reportedly planning a reunion with Paul Pogba in the summer.

The French midfielder arrived at the Old Trafford in 2016 as Manchester United paid a whopping £89m to acquire his services. The midfielder had a career defining four years in Turin and it was his stupendous performance at Juventus which earned him a breakthrough move to United.

Pogba has often been criticised for not utilising his potential since his arrival but his performance under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been quite extraordinary. The 25 year old has already surpassed his previous season’s goal tally and has been the difference maker for the Red Devils in the last few matches.

But it hasn’t been an easy road for the midfielder. The United academy product was at loggerheads with former manager Jose Mourinho and his relationship with the player also had an adverse effect on his game.

But since Mourinho’s dismissal, the player has gone onto establish his supremacy with some delightful football. Juventus have already secured the services of Aaron Ramsey but are determined to bring back their prodigal son.

Talks of a new contract have been mooted but currently, there is no offer on the table from the club. The Red Devils are likely to block any possible approach for the midfielder as he is  the face of the present United side.

Ole Gunnar Solskaje has hailed his side’s defensive display following Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Leicester City in the Premier League.

Marcus Rashford continued his brilliant form as he netted the only goal of the match. The win lifted United to fifth position just two points within fourth placed Chelsea.

Paul Pogba again proved his mettle as he set up Rashford with a beautifully lofted ball and the United academy product finished with super precision.

Leicester ramped up the intensity in the second half but the defensive pairing of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly stood tall and denied every possible attack to keep the Red Devils alive in the top four race.

Solskjaer insists he is very pleased with the way his defenders have performed. “Fantastic to have a clean sheet.

“And they played well against Arsenal together. Today, we started a little sloppy – Eric knows – but they really came good.

“It’s a first [clean sheet] in a while, we’ve had three games now, Burnley, Brighton and Arsenal, where we’ve conceded after a couple of clean sheets, but that’s important for us.

“When you’ve got players like Rashford, Pogba, Martial, Sanchez, all them quick ones up top, you’ve got a great chance of winning the game, that’s the foundation of a proper solid, defensive performance, and the keeper of course, two fantastic saves today as well. He’s kept us in it.

“Of course it was [heart-stopping] towards the end. When you’re 1-0 up, anything can happen in that box and I think that Harry Maguire has got a magnet on his head! Because it always dropped to him, a fantastic player in the box.

“So we knew we had to defend against him but our lads, they blocked, they put their body on the line so it was a fantastic effort and they were fighting for each other.

“Leicester are a good team and we knew this was going to be one of these games that if you don’t get the first goal, if they can counter-attack on you, you’re struggling.

“But we started well, got the first goal, so very pleased today.”

Molde Owners Told Me Not To Come Back: Solskjaer

0

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that while he was departing for Old Trafford, the owners of his former club Molde told him not to come back to the Norweigan outfit. The interim gaffer is yet to lose a match in his tenure at the helm of Manchester United after nine outings in all competitions.

Speaking to the media ahead of the match against Leicester City, the former Champions League winning striker said, “When I rang the owner and said that United had called and that he always knew that this had been my dream, he said: “Go over, enjoy yourself – and please don’t come back”.”

He also revealed that he is in constant touch with the legendary Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson and catches up with him after every home game. He said, “I go and visit him after every game in his lounge at Old Trafford and it is great to see him well and healthy. I have a football chat with him and his friends. Of course he still has a good eye for the game.”

He added, “We don’t speak every week but we keep bumping into each other at the stadium. He has also been to training a couple of times which is great for him too. To be fair, it has been horrendous weather when he has come to training! I think he enjoys watching football and now with Darren back (son Darren Ferguson has been appointed Peterborough manager), he might spend some time there too.”

Claude Puel Believes They Can Hurt Manchester United

Claud Puel insists Leicester City can end Manchester United’s unbeaten run.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has managed to turn the fortunes at Manchester United since the dismissal of Jose Mourinho. Top four had seemed to be a distant dream for the Red Devils following their dismal start but they are now just two points adrift of fourth placed Arsenal.

United have been on a wonderful run off late beating the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur on the way but they have shown some vulnerability in the last game against Burnley and Puel must have taken note of that.

Leicester do have the ammunition to stage an upset and the former Southampton manager believes they will certainly pose a threat to United. “They are on a nine-game unbeaten run with many [eight] wins but Liverpool also was a team without losing a lot of points at home, but we showed a lot of quality.

“It was the same against Chelsea and against (Manchester) City. I don’t say we can make an upset all the time against the big teams but it will be a good challenge. I think we play a good game against a big teams.

“I hope, to show these good qualities against United. We know we can make a difference.”

“If we can give a good feeling, a good spirit and a good attitude on the pitch, we can give our best all the time on Sunday and it would be fantastic if we can give a reward to our fans because at home we did not perform well enough. Against United, it would be perfect.”
