The Tottenham Hotspur player that Paul Scholes would “love” to see Manchester United sign in the summer of 2026 has been selected, and TEAMtalk has revealed the price that the club’s co-owners, INEOS, would have to pay for him.
With 44 points from 25 games, Manchester United defeated Tottenham 2-0 at Old Trafford on Saturday to move up to fourth place in the Premier League standings. Thomas Frank’s Tottenham team is presently in 15th place, six points above the relegation zone.
Cristian Romero’s ejection as a Tottenham center defender was one of the main talking points of the game at Old Trafford. When the Argentina international centre-back tackled Casemiro just above the ankle in the 29th minute, he was sent out with a straight red card.
Being sent out for the second time this season, the Tottenham captain will miss four games, including the North London derby against Arsenal. But according to Manchester United veteran Paul Scholes, INEOS ought to attempt to sign Romero from Spurs in the summer of 2026.
Man United to sign £42m Tottenham star
Since joining Tottenham for £42.5 million from Atalanta in 2022, Romero has made more than 150 appearances and contributed to the north London team’s Europa League victory the previous season. Under pressure, Spurs manager Frank said, following the team’s loss to Manchester United, that Romero is a “leader” in his locker room but needs to learn to control his anger.
“He seems like a leader to me,” Frank remarked. As a youthful leader, he is always learning new things. Frank also stated that he was not thinking of removing Romero from his Spurs captaincy. Frank left Brentford to take over the club last summer.
Before their match against Newcastle United on Tuesday, Spurs had lost seven straight Premier League games. However, Wayne Rooney, a former colleague of Scholes, expects the squad will support Frank.
“I feel bad for Frank because he appears to be ten years old,” Rooney stated on his BBC podcast. He’s been affected by that Tottenham job in a short amount of time. “He’s an excellent manager, so I hope they stay with him, but it will be really hard for them to do that.”
