Manchester United willing to pay Roma defender's buyout clause

According to reports in Italy, Manchester United are willing to pay Roma defender Kostas Manolas’ buyout clause in order to sign him. Manchester United are hell-bent on signing a centre-back and Manolas is one of the defenders who has been linked to the club for a while now.

The Greek defender has been an integral part of Roma since signing for the club from Olympiacos in 2014. So far, Manolas has made 203 appearances for Roma, scoring 8 goals and providing 7 assists. This season, Manolas has made 32 appearances for the Rome outfit, scoring twice and registering an assist.

The likes of Kalidou Koulibaly are among the defenders who Manchester United have been linked to but the club is reportedly eager to sign Manolas because of his relatively low price.

Manolas’ current contract at Roma expires in 2022 and Manchester United are willing to pay his buyout clause of £31 million.

Manolas missed a few matches for Roma in March due to a calf injury but is now back to action. He helped Roma register back to back clean sheets against Sampdoria and Udinese. Roma won both matches 1-0 and are now 5th in the Serie A table.

Manolas will hope to produce another fine showing for Roma this weekend when they take on Inter Milan.
