Manchester United have reportedly taken the next step in their hunt for a new manager and have officially made contact with one of their primary candidates

According to rumours, Ten Hag is studying English in order to gain a move to the Premier League next season, with the Dutchman’s heart set on a move to Old Trafford.

When this season finishes, current interim manager Ralf Rangnick will step down to become a consultant for the following two years, leaving the manager post vacant for a new contender to head the team next season.

For much of the season, United has been associated with Mauricio Pochettino, but polls show that most United fans would prefer Ten Hag to take over the club rather than the former Tottenham Hotspur coach.

The 52-year-old Dutchman has been in charge of Ajax since 2017 and has two Eredivisie championships to his credit (a third would likely be there but a season was wiped off due to Covid-19).

He also guided the team to a Champions League semi-final a few years ago, where they were defeated by Lucas Moura’s hat-trick. He lost a lot of high-profile players before rebuilding the club to win all six Champions League group stage games this season.

Ten Hag’s desire to depart this summer is thought to be known to Ajax.

Ten Hag also wants to recruit Mitchell van Der Gaag to Old Trafford as his deputy.
