Mason Greenwood set to leave Manchester United for Marseille
Mason Greenwood’s Manchester United journey appears to be nearing its end, with a move to French giants Marseille on the horizon.
The 22-year-old striker, who has been sidelined for two and a half years, is set to depart Old Trafford in a permanent deal valued at around £35 million.
Greenwood visited United’s training complex yesterday for a pivotal meeting with football executives, aimed at securing his future. Though he didn’t train, the discussions were reportedly constructive, focusing on finding a suitable new club for the young forward.
Marseille has emerged as the frontrunner to sign Greenwood, outpacing interest from Italian club Lazio. United are keen to finalize the deal swiftly, allowing Greenwood a fresh start in Ligue 1.
Despite being suspended by United in January 2022 following serious allegations, all charges against him were dropped, paving the way for his return to professional football.
During his loan spell at Getafe last season, Greenwood showed glimpses of his old form, netting 10 goals in 36 appearances. United had initially planned to reintegrate him into the squad last season but decided against it due to concerns over potential backlash.
With a move to Marseille, Greenwood will have the chance to revive his career in a new environment. Meanwhile, United are looking to bolster their attacking options, having agreed on personal terms with Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.
As Greenwood prepares for this significant career shift, fans and pundits alike will be watching closely to see if he can reclaim the promise he once showed at United. This move could be the fresh start he needs to reignite his footballing journey.
