According to sources, Manchester United players have made Mauricio Pochettino their preferred choice to become the club’s next manager

The major share of United players prefers Pochettino, who has voiced his desire to leave PSG and return to English football at Old Trafford.

After a dramatic triumph over Ten Hag’s Ajax in the last four, Pochettino had guided Tottenham to the 2019 Champions League final.

After dismissing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, United put out feelers to see whether Pochettino was available, but were advised that PSG’s Qatari owners were hesitant to release him from his contract in mid-season.

The club installed Michael Carrick as caretaker manager for three games, then Rangnick as interim for the rest of the season, to allow more time to make the right appointment come the summer.

Pochettino’s future at Parc des Princes is questionable, despite his team’s chances of reclaiming the French crown from Lille.

Pochettino is one of the most prominent names on United’s rumoured five-man shortlist, along with Ajax manager Erik ten Hag, and it’s said that the senior players are openly discussing his prospective hiring in the dressing room.

With Richard Arnold taking over as CEO in lieu of Ed Woodward, United are on the lookout for their next permanent manager to succeed Ralf Rangnick this summer.
