Manchester United have confirmed that Michael Carrick will remain as head coach of the men’s first team after agreeing a contract extension that runs to 2028.

Michael Carrick Signs New Manchester United Deal Until 2028

Carrick first returned to the Old Trafford dugout in January, and he made an immediate impact.

The former United midfielder won the Premier League Manager of the Month award after guiding his side to victories over Manchester City and Arsenal in his opening two matches.

Since then, Carrick has transformed the team’s fortunes. He has overseen 11 wins from 16 league games, collecting the highest points total of any Premier League side since his arrival.

That remarkable run secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

“From the moment I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United,” Carrick said on Manchester United official website.

“Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride.

This group of players have shown resilience, togetherness and determination. Now we move forward with ambition and a clear sense of purpose.”

Carrick enjoyed a glittering playing career at United, making 464 appearances. He won five Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Champions League, the Europa League and the Club World Cup.

Jason Wilcox, United’s director of football, praised Carrick’s impact. “Michael has thoroughly earned this opportunity,” Wilcox said.

“He has forged a strong bond with the players and built a winning culture at Carrington and in the dressing room.”

United fans will now hope, the new Manchester United manager, can lead the club back to the sport’s biggest honours.
