Young players in Manchester United

Manchester United have officially completed the signing of Diego Leon, the promising 18-year-old left-back from Paraguayan Primera Division side Cerro Porteno.

Diego Leon Joins the Red Devils in £3.3m Deal with Add‑Ons to Hit £7m

The Old Trafford side secured the 3 million upfront transfer, with add-ons potentially raising the fee to £7 million, marking a strategic investment in youth talent.

Born on April 3, 2007, in Colonia Yguazu, Paraguay, Leon rose through Cerro Porteno’s academy and made his senior debut in August 2024 scoring the winning goal in a 1–0 victory—before concluding the season with 33 appearances and four goals.

Manchester United began negotiations in January, and after the teenager celebrated his 18th birthday, the move was finalized in July.

In their official announcement, United described Leon as an “emerging talent” who will receive comprehensive support from both the first team and the academy, helping him adjust seamlessly to life in Manchester.

In addition, sources indicate he has signed a long-term deal extending until 2030.

Leon’s own words reflect his ambition and gratitude: “I promise to give my best every day – in training, on the pitch, and off it.

Thank you to the club for the trust, and to my family for always being by my side… From Paraguay to the world. Let’s go, Red Devils!”.

His heartfelt message and confident mindset have already endeared him to fans, with many praising his maturity and potential.

This move signals Manchester United’s commitment to a youth-focused rebuilding strategy under the stewardship of technical director Jason Wilcox and CEO Omar Berrada.

Leon joins a crop of young talents including Chido Obi-Martin and Leny Yoro emblematic of the club’s new direction.

On the field, Leon offers versatility: adept as both a traditional left-back and an attacking wing-back.

His arrival comes as Luke Shaw nurses an injury and partners Patrick Dorgu in contesting United’s left side—creating healthy competition.

At just 18, Diego Leon arrives at Old Trafford with optimism, ambition, and a promise to shine. United fans will now look forward to seeing him grow and flourish on one of football’s grandest stages.
