Former Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah has officially joined Bayer Leverkusen.

The transfer fees is reported to be around £1.5million.

“A step into a really interesting and very strong league in which Bayer 04 has been one of the best teams for years. I’m really looking forward to this team and also to working with Peter Bosz, ” Fosu-Mensah said on the move.

“In the past few days I’ve talked a lot with the coach, and conversations with Simon Rolfes and Rudi Voller have convinced me that there are great prospects in Leverkusen. Both for me personally and for us as a team. It’s going to be really exciting. ”

The Bundesliga club’s sporting director, Simon Rolfes, said: “Timothy Fosu-Mensah is a technically adept, fast and physically strong defender who can be used both as a right-back and in the center.

“With his signing, we have not only won another top alternative for the defence after the failures of Santiago Arias and Mitchell Weiser. Tim is still young and capable of development. He will also help us in perspective. ”

His thoughts were echoed by fellow director Rudi Voller, who labelled Fosu-Mensah as ‘a valuable addition to our squad’. He added: “We are facing great sporting challenges in the coming weeks. For this we need resilient players who consistently deliver their top performance.
