Benjamin Sesko will be acquired by Manchester United from RB Leipzig for £73.3 million. The striker will become Ruben Amorim’s fourth summer acquisition and sign a five-year contract. Sesko preferred a transfer to Old Trafford, even though Newcastle had fought Manchester United for the striker and offered a comparable package to the German team.
For the 22-year-old, who scored 13 goals in the Bundesliga the previous season, United will pay an initial £66.3 million and the remaining amount in possible add-ons. Before completing the move, Sesko will head to Manchester for a medical examination.
Sesko’s arrival will bring United’s total investment to a potential £214 million, following the acquisitions of Bryan Mbeumo, Diego León, and Matheus Cunha. As United looks to build on their 44 goals from 38 league games the previous season, Sesko, Cunha, and Mbeumo will be a crucial element of Amorim’s front three. Sesko will perform professionally outside of the Red Bull group of teams for the first time.

According to sources who spoke to ESPN, Sesko made it obvious that he preferred to transfer to Old Trafford despite Newcastle making many approaches for him. He had been training apart from the other members of the first team as talks over his future continued.
Last season, Sesko scored 21 goals in 45 games in all competitions for Leipzig. Prior to relocating to Germany in 2023, he had a stint with RB Salzburg.
He will be the third big addition to United this summer, after Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford and Matheus Cunha from Wolves. Their transfer window expenditures now total close to £200 million.
Although sales will be crucial with the significant expenditure, United may still pursue a central midfield player. The future of Højlund will be called into question with Sesko’s arrival.
United would like his salary to be paid and a fee to be paid for the loan, although they are open to selling or lending the striker. The team is still attempting to get rid of Tyrell Malacia, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, and Antony.
