Manchester United striker Chido Obi has completed a season-long loan move to Dutch Eredivisie side Willem II, the Premier League club confirmed on Wednesday.

Manchester United Youngster Chido Obi Joins Willem II on Season-Long Loan

The 18-year-old Denmark under-21 international will spend the 2025-26 campaign in the Netherlands as United look to accelerate his development through regular first-team football.

Obi made eight senior appearances for the Red Devils under manager Ruben Amorim during the 2024-25 season, but his game time remained limited.

The young forward did not feature in the first team last term and earned only one place on the substitutes’ bench.

Despite limited opportunities at senior level, Obi impressed for United’s under-21 side, scoring 20 goals across 37 appearances in all competitions.

He played a key role in guiding the club to the FA Youth Cup final, demonstrating his considerable potential in front of goal.

The timing of the transfer proved crucial, as the Dutch transfer window remained open until the end of Wednesday.

This allowed Willem II to secure Obi’s services after the English window had already shut the previous day.

United announced the move as an opportunity for the teenager “to gain further senior experience,” suggesting the club views this loan spell as an essential step in his development pathway.

In related news, United rejected a late approach from Everton for another of their strikers, Joshua Zirkzee.

The Toffees made a season-long loan offer with an option to buy on Tuesday, according to ESPN, but United turned down the proposal.

The interest came after Everton’s move for United States striker Folarin Balogun collapsed in the final hours of the window.

However, United deemed the approach too late, leaving insufficient time to find a suitable replacement for the Dutch forward.

Obi will now look to make his mark in the Eredivisie, following in the footsteps of several young United players who have benefited from loan spells abroad.

The Danish youngster will hope regular game time at Willem II can accelerate his development and prepare him for a future role at Old Trafford.
