After Ruben Amorim’s outrageous outburst after the draw against Leeds, Manchester United made the unexpected decision to fire him. Amorim was fired the next day after sending a direct message to the United board at his news conference after the game.
Amorim was fired by United after 14 months in charge following the 1-1 draw at Elland Road. Darren Fletcher, a former player for United and current coach of the under-18 team, will lead the squad on Wednesday night when they play Burnley in the Premier League.
Omar Berrada, the CEO, and Jason Wilcox, the director of football, made the choice. According to The Athletic, Fletcher may serve as United’s temporary manager until the end of the current campaign until a full-time successor is appointed.
According to a United release, “Ruben Amorim has left his position as Manchester United’s head coach.” After being hired in November 2024, Ruben guided the squad to a May UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao.

Less than twenty-four hours after the Portuguese manager made such remarks, he was fired. In the interim, Darren Fletcher will lead United until a new manager is chosen, which could not happen until the summer.
United released the following statement: “Ruben Amorim has left his position as Manchester United’s head coach. Ruben took the squad to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May after being appointed in November 2024.
“The club’s leadership has reluctantly decided that now is the best moment to make a change, with Manchester United currently lying sixth in the Premier League. The squad will have the best chance of finishing as high in the Premier League as possible thanks to this.
“The club wishes Ruben well in the future and would like to thank him for his commitment to the club. On Wednesday, Darren Fletcher will lead the team against Burnley. The Athletic claims that Amorim was fired mostly due to a “breakdown in relations” with players like Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada.
