Former Chelsea striker Chris Sutton lashes out at Manchester United boss Ole’s “petty words” on Liverpool.

Ole had earlier stated that Man United used to be a better team than Liverpool.

This is the reality of where United are now,’ Sutton told BBC Radio Five Live. ‘And they’re in with a bunch of other teams, they’re bang average.

‘Where I don’t think he helps himself is I think he is delusional with a lot of things that he says. ‘You know, before the Liverpool game I read a quote from him he’s “discovered a nice way of playing” against Liverpool.

‘He talks the team up, he spoke about Liverpool, these petty little jibes Liverpool being a long ball team.

‘Then you hear the players, Daniel James saying that Manchester United are never underdogs you know, “We are United”. That’s all guff, it really is. ‘They need to have a reality check of where they actually are. It’s pretence, he should be playing things down, talking them down, talking about developing young players, which he has done at times but don’t pretend you’re anywhere near the level of Liverpool because Liverpool are challenging for the big trophies, the Premier League, the Champions League.

‘ Manchester United at this moment in time they are a Europa League team and they are a top-six team.

‘That is where they are and there needs to be a reality check from the manager. Stop talking about the Manchester United way, the past, this is what we used to do because that was years ago. ‘It’s great for fans to look back at history but Liverpool at this moment in time are blowing United away because they’re living in the present. United live in the past.’
