Ole Solskjaer Confirms Manchester United Star's Departure

Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Antonio Valencia will be leaving the club this summer.

The fullback has been a very impactful cog in the Red Devils setup for the past decade but his services are no longer of the same value. At 33, the decline in his athletic abilities has played a major part in him being dropped from the club’s lineup on a regular basis.

His contract is also running to a close although United do have an option to extend it for another season.

When speaking about who can become the club’s next captain, Solskjaer said, “We’ll see who’s here for next season and I’ve got a couple of players in my head that could be captain.

“We’ve had Antonio (Valencia), he’s going, we’ve had Ashley (Young), we’ve had Paul (Pogba), we’ve had David (de Gea), Chris (Smalling) has been captain, so there are players here who can be captain on the pitch.

“We just need to decide who’s the club captain. Who’s going to be the voice in and around [the place].”

Primarily signed as a winger, it took a lot of sacrifice from Valencia’s end to play in the role he was assigned by Sir Alex Ferguson. Soon, the Ecuador international reinvented himself and became the Premier League title-winning player that he was destined to become.

He has made over 300 appearances for the Red Devils and has been linked with a move to MLS outfit, DC United. Valencia could link up with his former Manchester teammate, Wayne Rooney for a second time in Washington, USA.
