Paul Pogba And Romelu Lukaku Engage In Heated Fight After Southampton Win

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reportedly had to step in between Paul Pogba and Romelu Lukaku after the 3-2 comeback win against Southampton in the dressing room.

The duo engaged in a heated argument after the game over a missed penalty. It was Lukaku who was thought to have initiated the exchange by calling out Pogba’s selfish attitude.

The Red Devils were awarded a spot kick in injury time and Pogba immediately stepped up to take the shot. However, Lukaku had also scored a brace and had a very clear opportunity at getting his first hattrick as a United player.

Pogba, who is the team’s first-choice penalty-taker under Solskjaer refused to give the Belgian the ball and ended up missing the penalty altogether.

This infuriated Lukaku who brought argued that he would have acted otherwise if the roles were reversed. The striker also brought up examples of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah who had previously acted in the interest of his teammate, Roberto Firmino in a similar situation.

Pogba replied with the moral authority of simply doing his job for the team. Ultimately, Solskjaer had to tell both the players to forget about the incident and to focus on the win that they had achieved together as a team.

Lukaku and Pogba are known to be very good friends off the pitch. However, one should take note that both of them are two of the highest paid players in the club.

The altercation, however, might not affect United since Pogba will be left behind for the second leg tie against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday and Lukaku is almost a guaranteed starter with 10 starting players injured.
