Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba thanked former manager Jose Mourinho for improving him as a footballer and a person. Mourinho brought Pogba back to Manchester United from Juventus in the summer of 2016.
There was a lot of talk of the relationship between Pogba and Mourinho in the past few months. Reports claimed that the two had a rift and did not see eye to eye.
A recent report stated that Pogba celebrated Mourinho’s sacking.
Manchester United started brilliantly under new manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer by thrashing Cardiff City 5-1 yesterday. This was the first time Manchester United scored 5 goals in a Premier League game after Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure.
Following the match, Pogba praised Mourinho, saying, “We won trophies with Jose and I want to thank him for that. He  makes me improve, as a person as well, and that’s it. We work even if not everything went well. But that is the past and I want to thank him for that.”
Pogba also expressed his delight on Manchester United winning their first match under Solskjaer. He said, “We are happy that the first game of the manager starts like this. It’s important now to carry on like that. We cannot play like this and win with five goals and then the next game lose.”
The win keeps Manchester United at 6th place in the league table. They are now 8 points below the top four. Manchester United’s next match is against Huddersfield Town on Boxing Day.
