The player has been heavily linked with a move to the Red Devils
Manchester United are looking to bolster their squad in the transfer window after an underwhelming campaign last season, not winning a single silverware. They finished second in the Premier League, 19 points behind Manchester City.
The Red Devils are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window and they have already completed three signings, teenage full-back Diogo Dalot has signed from Porto, while a £52.5 million fee has been agreed with Shakhtar Donetsk for Brazil international Fred and Lee Grant from Stoke City.
Despite having the most clean sheets and the second best defensive record in the Premier League last term, Jose Mourinho was not happy as he had to rely on auxiliary full-backs and failed to settle on a consistent central defensive axis due to injuries and inconsistency.
The Portuguese manager has been targeting a top class centre-back this summer despite spending big on defenders in the past two years. The Premier League giants have been heavily linked with a move for Tottenham star Toby Alderweireld.
The Belgium International has been linked with a move away this summer after Spurs has struggled to come to terms with the defender’s high week demands. They do not want pay such high wages and could sell him this summer as he has a release clause in his contract which will drop his value to £25 million next summer.
The centre-back just made three appearances for the club since he returned to full fitness back in February. Mauricio Pochettino claimed that his absence is not due to contract situations but it’s hard to believe because he was one of the first names in the starting XI before transfer talk sparked.
However, the 29 year old had an excellent World Cup campaign as he helped his nation Belgium to reach the semi-finals. But United are said to value former Southampton ace at about £20 million less than the Spurs asking price of £75 million and have been unable to pry him away from London.
But Tottenham are willing to listen to offers for Alderweireld, Danny Rose and Mousa Dembele, claims Sky Sports.
England international left-back Rose has been linked with Mourinho’s side in the past, while the Belgian continues to spark talk of interest from Old Trafford.
