Ralf Rangnick will not undertake the consultant role at Manchester United.

The German coach has committed to coaching the Austria national team and would not take the consultancy role at Man United as previously discussed.

He took over the role as an interim manager back in November and was unable to rescue United from a disastrous season in which they finished sixth and failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Rangnick was expected to work alongside Ten Hag next season despite accepting the Austrian job.

A club statement read: “We would like to thank Ralf Rangnick for his efforts as interim manager over the past six months.”

“By mutual agreement, Ralf will now focus solely on his new role as manager of the Austria national team and will not therefore be taking up a consultancy role at Old Trafford.

“We would like to wish Ralf the best of luck in this next chapter of his career.”
