Ruben Amorim- Man Utd Manager

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has hinted that several fringe players could look to leave the club when the January transfer window opens.

United’s early Carabao Cup exit and the lack of European competition have limited Amorim’s chances to rotate his squad.

The Portuguese coach has recently found a winning formula, guiding the Red Devils to three straight Premier League victories — but that stability has come at the cost of playing time for several squad members.

Amorim admitted he expects movement in January, saying some players are frustrated by their lack of opportunities, especially with a World Cup on the horizon later this season.

“Some players are not playing, they will ask to leave, so I have to manage everything,” Amorim said.

Young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, who wanted a loan move in the summer but saw his request denied, has yet to start a league game this season.

Meanwhile, Joshua Zirkzee has featured sparingly, totaling just 82 minutes across four substitute appearances, and is reportedly attracting interest from West Ham and Serie A clubs.

Amorim emphasized that United’s recruitment strategy remains focused on long-term growth rather than short-term fixes.

“We want to bring players that have a big future at Manchester United. We’re not just buying for now, we’re building for the future,” he said.

However, the manager stressed that every player still has a chance to fight for their place, citing Casemiro’s resurgence after being close to an exit last summer.

“Casemiro was behind, then he fought and won his place. Anyone can play if they earn it,” Amorim noted.

With United currently sixth in the Premier League and just one point off the top four, Amorim’s goal remains securing European qualification — not only for the club’s ambitions but also to give more opportunities to his wider squad.

“We need Europe to manage the group better,” he added.
