Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has heaped praise on young full-back Patrick Dorgu after his standout performance in the club’s 4-1 pre-season win over Bournemouth in Chicago.
Amorim Singles Out Patrick Dorgu as Rising Star of United’s Pre-Season
The 20-year-old left-back played a key role in the Red Devils’ emphatic victory at Soldier Field, providing an early assist for Rasmus Hojlund’s opener and then scoring his first goal for the club with a composed finish inside the first half.
Dorgu, who arrived from Lecce in January for £25 million, continues to impress during his first pre-season with United.
He’s now delivered back-to-back strong performances, having also starred in the 2-1 win over West Ham United in New Jersey last weekend.
Playing as a wing-back in Amorim’s system, Dorgu has offered speed, strength, and attacking drive down the left flank traits the manager values highly in his tactical setup.
His positioning, overlapping runs, and defensive work rate have all improved notably during the US tour.
Speaking to MUTV, Amorim said, “It’s impressive. He is 20 years old and already looks like he belongs at Manchester United. That’s not easy at this age.
He’s so powerful, he’s adding more technique, and his defending and pressing are getting better every day. I’m really impressed with Patrick.”
Dorgu’s progress suggests he’s in line for a much bigger role in the upcoming season, especially with his adaptability to Amorim’s high-intensity style of play.
His performances have caught the attention of fans and pundits alike, with many tipping him as one of United’s breakout stars for the 2025/26 campaign.
Manchester United will wrap up their pre-season tour of the United States with a clash against Everton in Atlanta this Sunday and all eyes will again be on the exciting young defender.
