The idea that Bruno Fernandes might leave Manchester United to sign with Real Madrid this summer has been ruled out by Ruben Amorim. With seven goals and three assists in his previous seven games, Fernandes has maintained his position as a vital member of the team despite yet another dismal season at Old Trafford. This has given the team a type of mini-revival.
With a hat-trick from the Portugal international against Real Sociedad in the previous round, United has advanced to the Europa League quarterfinals and is still hoping to win some hardware after a terrible season.
Real Madrid is reportedly interested in adding Fernandes to their roster of players and is reportedly mulling a £90 million offer to bring the 30-year-old to the Santiago Bernabeu. Fernandes extended his tenure in Manchester until 2027 by signing a new long-term contract there last summer.
Before United’s trip to Nottingham Forest, Amorim made it clear that his captain would not be leaving in the summer. In reaction to those rumors, Amorim stated, “It’s not going to happen.”
Ratcliffe to sell Fernandes with Amorim ignored in Man Utd business decision
In response to the rumors, Stelling said, “I like Amorim; I know he listens to the show, but I’m sorry, it won’t be up to Ruben Amorim whether they sell Bruno Fernandes or not.” Then McCoist answered, “100 percent. That’s exactly right. It will depend on a couple of additional elements.
“They are discussing a £90 million offer from Real Madrid; if they actually made that offer, Jim Ratcliffe would be shaking his hand and saying, ‘Good luck, son.'” Stelling continued.
“You could actually argue that he would be better with a higher caliber of player surrounding him because, with the utmost respect for United at this time, the players haven’t been performing to the standard they should have,” McCoist continued.
It is noteworthy that Fernandes has a contract with Old Trafford that expires in 2027, with a club option to extend his contract through the 2027–2028 campaign.
Earlier this year, the player acknowledged that he turned down a huge offer to leave Manchester United for the wealth of Saudi Arabia. The player’s refusal to transfer would prevent a deal from being completed, even if Ratcliffe tried to force Fernandes out.
