Rúben Amorim admitted post-match on Saturday that the injury to Benjamin Sesko could be more serious than initially hoped after his side’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur.
“Amorim: Sesko Has ‘Something in His Knee’ After Spurs Game”
The Slovenian forward came off the bench in the 58th minute and left the field late in the game clutching his knee after a challenge from Micky van de Ven.
According to match reports, the player managed to walk off unaided, but Amorim stressed the club will have to wait for a full medical evaluation before assessing the scale of the damage.
Amorim stated on Manchester United Website: “We have to check. He has something in his knee, so let’s see. We think he has a problem.”
The Portuguese boss also said: “It’s the knee, and we never know. Right now, I’m not thinking about form or selection. I’m more concerned about the injury because it’s in the knee, and I don’t know how serious it is.”
The timing of this setback could be particularly damaging for Manchester United given their upcoming fixture list and already existing injury concerns.
Sesko only recently joined the club and is still adapting to his role within Amorim’s system. Losing him for any significant period could force United to rethink their attacking options, especially with the January window looming.
Despite the draw earning United a point from what looked like a winning position, the mood after the game was muted.
With Sesko’s issue now taking centre stage, Amorim admitted the squad must cope with multiple injury problems simultaneously.
“When we have to take out [other players] and then losing Ben, you have to overcome everything,” he said.
At this stage, United cannot define how long Sesko will be sidelined until scans are completed. The club will remain cautious as they await more clarity on his condition.
