Ruben Amorim- Man Utd Manager

Manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed Manchester United’s January transfer strategy will focus squarely on the future, even if it means bypassing immediate squad needs.

Amorim: United will only sign players for the future in January Window

The club will only pursue players they believe will be long-term assets. United’s most pressing requirement is in central midfield, with links to talents like Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton, and Carlos Baleba.

However, securing these primary targets now appears difficult, likely pushing any major midfield reinforcement until the summer.

This approach does not rule out activity this month. The club holds interest in Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, a 25-year-old with a £65 million release clause.

Amorim has previously praised Semenyo as a “special player,” though the club invested heavily in attackers like Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko last summer.

The current absence of Mbeumo, Amad Diallo, and Noussair Mazraoui due to the Africa Cup of Nations has not shifted this long-term vision.

Amorim firmly ruled out seeking a short-term solution to cover their month-long departure.

“It’s not going to be to save something in this moment, to cope with the losses of three players for AFCON,” Amorim stated on ESPN.

“The only thing we know is that we would only try to bring players that we think are going to be the future.”

He acknowledged that any new arrival might not address the most urgent positional gap, reinforcing the strategic outlook.

“We will try to bring now, and at the end of the season, players that are perfect for our future.”

This disciplined stance signals a clear shift in planning at Old Trafford, emphasizing sustainable building over reactive fixes during the January window.
