Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has identified teenage sensation JJ Gabriel as a generational talent, comparing the young forward’s fearless attitude to that of Wayne Rooney.
Ryan Giggs believes United already have the next Wayne Rooney in their ranks
Gabriel, who is only 15 years old, has already begun training with the senior squad at Carrington.
The youngster has impressed coaches with his performances for the Under-18s, sparking excitement that he could make his first-team debut this season.
Speaking on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, Rio Ferdinand Presents, Giggs discussed the teenager’s rapid rise.
Ferdinand noted how comfortable Gabriel looked during shooting drills alongside Bruno Fernandes. Giggs responded by drawing a parallel to United’s all-time record goalscorer.
“That sounds like Wayne, doesn’t it?” Giggs said. “Just give me the ball. I don’t care who I’m training with.”
Rooney famously broke into Everton’s senior side at 16 before joining United two years later.
Giggs, who made 963 appearances for the Red Devils after debuting at 17, believes Gabriel is in the perfect environment to succeed.
He praised the club’s academy structure and the guidance of former players turned coaches, including Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher, and Jonny Evans.
When asked if a loan move would benefit Gabriel’s development, Giggs firmly rejected the idea. He argued that the teenager must remain at Old Trafford to absorb the immense expectations of the club.
“You go on loan when you’re 19 or 20, not now,” Giggs stated. “He is a generational talent. He’s got to stay.”
While Giggs urged patience regarding a full breakthrough, he acknowledged that Gabriel’s promotion is inevitable.
He noted that the teenager must simply wait for the right moment when the coaching staff can no longer overlook his ability.
