Ahead of the Champions League final on 1st June, Tottenham’s favourite son Son has revealed his Manchester United inspiration he draws from. He talked about former United star Ji-Sung Park.
“He was unbelievable,” said Son on Park. “I respect him. I respect the players who started playing in Europe because they opened the door and gave us the opportunity to play in Europe. This was what I wanted to do – to play in Europe.
“And now I want to give a good image of South Korean players and open the door even wider than it was a few years ago.
“This is my target. This is what I’m aiming for. Of course it’s not that easy. I try to be like him [Park] because he did an unbelievable job for us and for our country and that’s why I respect him so much.”
“I got up and watched because Park was playing for United and he was playing in the final as well.
“This was so big in South Korea because he was the first (Asian) player who played in a Champions League final. United had arrived in the final. I was doing it as a football fan.
“Did I dream it would be me one day? Of course you are dreaming about good things. I am always dreaming about good things like winning something. Or being the best player.”
