After Erik ten Hag assumed one of the toughest managerial positions in the world, Manchester United was connected to a plethora of attacking players in the previous summer

The club needed to bring in a top goal scorer because Cristiano Ronaldo’s future was uncertain and Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford had previously put on uneven performances.

Martial and Rashford performed in preseason and at the start of the season, but the Portuguese ultimately stayed, and the Red Devils decided to concentrate on other, more crucial goals.

Bologna star Marko Arnautovic was one player who was on the verge of moving to Old Trafford. A deal for the Austrian never happened due to fan backlash.

Due to his prior transgressions, the 33-year-old was never a fan favourite, thus the team decided to boost their attack by signing Brazilian Antony. However, the former West Ham United forward has since stated to Sportweek, a weekly publication of Gazzetta, that Jose Mourinho wanted to have him back while he was in charge of the United team.

The striker was a member of Inter Milan’s 2010 Treble-winning team under Mourinho. The Portuguese, though, were never his biggest supporters. A significant concern was identified as attitude problems. But the forward disclosed that Mourinho had ultimately changed his mind and realised his value.
