According to The Athletic, Manchester United has already reached a personal agreement with Carlos Baleba, a midfielder for Brighton, and they are expected to try to sign him in January.
During the summer transfer window, the Red Devils were able to change their offensive options, but they neglected to make any changes to other crucial parts of the field. Lanne Sammens, who joined Manchester from Royal Antwerp to bolster their goalkeeping alternatives for Ruben Amorim, was officially announced by United on deadline day.
That was just United’s fourth senior addition in the summer window, which might come as a surprise after such a disappointing 2024/2025 campaign. Amorim’s side finished in the bottom half of the Premier League table, losing the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
According to The Athletic, Manchester United agreed to personal terms with Brighton midfielder Baleba ahead of a potential move after holding talks with the Seagulls during the summer transfer window. Manager Amorim pushed for Baleba internally, and Sir Jim Ratcliffe also wanted him, but they could not justify the price tag.
Man Utd Agree Personal Terms to Sign Carlos Baleba
United and Baleba reached a personal agreement over a move to Old Trafford, according to a story published by The Athletic following the end of the transfer market. But it’s reported that Brighton’s estimate of at least £115 million turned them off.
In the end, United chose to bring in goalkeeper Senne Lammens rather than recruit a new midfield player before Monday’s deadline. Baleba has started all three of Brighton’s league games and has maintained his professionalism despite rumors about his future.
Currently, the midfield player is traveling with Cameroon for their doubleheader World Cup qualifying matches against Cape Verde and Eswatini. For a hectic September, the 21-year-old will rejoin the Brighton team after arriving in England.
Fabian Hurzeler’s team will play Barnsley in the Carabao Cup and then Bournemouth, Tottenham, Chelsea, and Wolves in the league before the next international break. United will host Baleba at Old Trafford on October 25 following the October break in domestic football.
