According to writer Miguel Delaney, Manchester United is a fan of Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola as doubts over Ruben Amorim’s future at Old Trafford mount.
The ‘winning machine’ Spanish strategist, who has had tremendous success at the Vitality Stadium since coming to the south coast in June 2023, is reportedly admired by a number of teams, including the Red Devils.
Using a four-at-the-back formation, Iraola led Bournemouth to a 12th-place finish in his debut season in 2023–2024. Since then, the Cherries have climbed to ninth place, the highest league result in club history.
The 2024–25 season has similarly begun well for Bournemouth, who have won three of their first four games and lost just 4–2 away to champions Liverpool on the first day.
Iraola has less than a year left on his contract, which expires in June 2026. He signed an extension with the team after an outstanding 2024 rookie season.
INEOS eyeing best young coach in the world for Man Utd
Amorim’s record of only 18 victories in his 48 games as United’s manager is stunning and well below the expectations of the supporters. Although his 3-4-2-1 system was a source of excitement when he was hired ten months ago, it now seems to be a major source of contention for him at Old Trafford.
The Cherries’ best-ever Premier League finish in the 2024–2025 season has been secured by the Spaniard, who has won 38 of his 92 games as manager. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that many others, like Sky Sports commentator Sam Tighe, have referred to him as the best young coach in the world.
Although it’s unknown if the 43-year-old would want to transfer to Old Trafford or how much a trade would cost, it’s obvious that he would be an improvement over Amorim based on his numbers. Thus far, Iraola has improved his win percentage and point-per-game record in England’s top division, earning the nickname “incredible” from Sky Sports’ Nick Wright.
