If the most recent story from Spain is accurate, Manchester United is preparing a shocking raid for Raphinha, but they will be up against a fierce competitor in a fierce transfer battle for the FC Barcelona star. The Premier League was rocked earlier this month by INEOS’s decision to take action against Ruben Amorim’s turbulent tenure.

Michael Carrick took over as caretaker till the end of the season after Amorim and sports director Jason Wilcox had a heated argument that rendered the Portuguese coach’s job unsustainable. With instant success, the former midfielder replaced Amorim’s much criticised 3-4-2-1 shape with a 4-2-3-1.

The atmosphere at Old Trafford has improved with back-to-back wins over Manchester City and Arsenal, but the choice to spend 14 months testing a system that went against the club’s traditions of fast-paced attacking football with flying wingers has come under scrutiny.

Regardless of whether Carrick or a more well-known player is chosen as Amorim’s long-term replacement this summer, it is anticipated that they will maintain a back four and two wide players.

United hoping to sign ex-Leeds star Raphinha from Barcelona

Manchester United is reportedly considering a deal for Barcelona winger Raphinha, according to El Nacional. After moving from Leeds United to Barcelona in 2022, Raphinha has become one of the world’s top players. United is reportedly prepared to make a bid of up to €95 million. But the Brazilian has emerged as a team leader, and Barcelona’s senior management doesn’t appear to want to let him go.

Raphinha was a strong candidate for the Ballon d’Or last season and has been one of Barcelona’s best players this year. To further tempt the Brazilian superstar, Old Trafford and Anfield are apparently offering an absurd salary package of almost £365,000 per week. However, this takes the narrative beyond the realm of fantasy and beyond the sphere of credibility.

With Raphinha’s countryman Casemiro being driven out of the team this summer owing to a hefty contract comparable to the one being offered for the Barcelona winger, INEOS has persistently worked to reduce United’s outrageous pay cost. In addition, Raphinha will be 30 next season, which is a death sentence in football, especially for a quick forward. This raises concerns about the £82 million transfer cost.
