The resolution of Michael Carrick’s backroom staff problem is delaying Manchester United’s announcement that he will become their permanent head coach. Carrick and United have agreed on a two-year contract with a one-year option.
Jo Tongue, Carrick’s agent, attended United’s 3-2 victory against Nottingham Forest on Sunday and was present at the Carrington training facility on Thursday. Carrick’s elevation is expected to be revealed this week, although United intended to disclose it over the weekend.
When Carrick was hired on January 13 for the rest of the season, he established a backroom staff that he intends to retain. Carrick’s former Middlesbrough assistant Jonathan Woodgate and former England assistant Steve Holland both showed up at the same time.
The Athletic reports that Carrick’s backroom staff will remain in place, and the squad plans to hire more players, including a set-piece coach. Wilcox, Berrada, and Carrick were present at Joie Stadium on Thursday for the FA Youth Cup final.
Man Utd agree two-year deal to stay head coach
Michael Carrick has been granted a two-year deal by Manchester United to become their permanent head coach, with the option to extend it until 2029. After an executive committee meeting this week, co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe approved the negotiations with Carrick, according to a story in The Athletic.
On Sunday, United will play their last home game of the season against Nottingham Forest, live on Sky Sports. The permanent head coach usually addresses the crowd at full-time.
After an outstanding 15 games in which he secured Champions League football and gained victories against Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea, Omar Berrada, the chief executive, and Jason Wilcox, the director of football, think Carrick is the appropriate person to continue guiding United.
The former United midfielder had been the front-runner for the position for a while. His bosses were impressed by his popularity with the playing squad, his media management skills, his innate knowledge of the football club’s history and size, and—most importantly—the outcomes he has produced on the pitch.
