Dayot Upamecano recently signed a new deal with RB Leipzig that will keep him at the club until 2023.

German side RB Leipzig recently reminded Manchester United in a tweet that Dayot Upamecano who has been labeled as the new defensive partner for Harry Maguire has signed a new deal with the club.

United have been on the lookout for a defender this transfer window following their poor defending in the Europa League semi-final match against Sevilla.

Kalidou Koulibaly has been linked with Manchester United since the past two seasons but his price tag has proven to be very high for many clubs.

Upamecano, 21, is touted as one of the best young defenders in Europe after a series of outstanding displays with RB Leipzig in the past two seasons.

RB Leipzig were desperate to keep hold of their defender and they finally signed Upamecano to a three-year contract that will tie him at the club until 2023.

Meanwhile former Tottenham striker Darren Bent believes United should go all in to sign the 21-year old over Kalidou Kouliably.

He told talkSPORT: “Koulibaly seems to be the one people speak about, but when I watched him in the Champions League, he wasn’t great at all.

“I like the RB Leipzig centre-half, he really impressed me and against Spurs he was superb in the Champions League.

“He’s one I thought a lot more people would have gone for.

“I think he’s better than Koulibaly.”
