United told Ronaldo he must be present for their preseason tour

Next season will be the first time Ronaldo won’t play in the Champions League.

Manchester United have told Cristiano Ronaldo he must be present for their preseason tour. The Red Devils will tour to Australia and Asia. United embark on a two-and-a-half week tour of the southern hemisphere on Sunday.

Reports over the weekend have claimed that Ronaldo has requested an exit from the club.

The 37-year-old has been told he is required to be part of the travelling squad, according to The Mirror.

Manchester United failed to qualify for the Champions League and this is the reason why Ronaldo wants to leave the Old Trafford.

The club will play into the Europa League this season and the former Real Madrid star don’t want to play this UEFA competition. He has never played in Europa League before and had a tremendous record in Champions League.

A source close to Ronaldo said: “Next season will be the first time he won’t play in the Champions League.

“He needs to play in the competition – it’s what drives him to produce his best, hence why he wants to move.”
