Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin Van Der Sar has said that he would like to go back to Manchester United.

The player has become a Manchester United legend since joining the Red Devils from Fulham. Van Der Sar was a keeper well into his 30s by the team Ferguson spotted him.

No other team wanted to go for an old keeper but Sir Alex saw in him something that made him sign the veteran Dutchman. It turned out to be an astute signing as Van Der Sar kept a record number of clean sheets and won United multiple league titles and one Champions League title as well.

The former Red Devils goalie has now revealed that before he joined Fulham, he had a chance to join Liverpool, Manchester United’s arch rivals. Had he joined the Reds, Fergie and his men would probably never have come through for him and a career that ended so well might have gone differently.

Football is a funny old game. Here is what he had to say.

The goalkeeper, now a Chief Executive at Ajax, told Goal: “I had two options and could have transferred to Liverpool or Dortmund. “Both clubs hesitated a bit, so in the end I chose Fulham.”
