Van Persie singles out players responsible for defeat to Arsenal

Former Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie points out the responsible people for United’s defeat to Arsenal on Wednesday.

He has blamed Fred, Nemanja Matic and Harry Maguire – when they failed to be of help to Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

Nicolas Pepe and Sokratis netted goals that fixed a 2-0 triumph for Mikel Arteta’s side at the Emirates Stadium. Manchester United found it a little hard to stay up to Arsenal’s energy throughout the match.

‘I do believe that the reason why Manchester United were so flat is that the midfielders were not giving those final balls,’ Van Persie told BT Sport.

Martial did not get any shot during the game and Rashford got in simply two attempts – this is mostly because Manchester United’s attackers weren’t helped much.

Van Persie stated that Harry Maguire kept delaying his passes. Along with that, the issue was in United’s central midfielding form.

‘Even if it goes wrong it doesn’t matter because then you play in their half. ‘No one was giving those balls.

‘Rashford I have him down for [making] 15 great runs, Martial similar. He didn’t receive one ball, not even once.

‘Partly quality, the door was open but the pass didn’t come. ‘You need a bit of fear for your coach, but first you need a gameplan.
