Dimitar Berbatov believes it is time for Harry Kane to take the next step in his career.

The England international has risen to world-class levels since making his breakthrough in the 2014/15 campaign.

He has racked up an incredible tally of 181 goals in 278 appearances and was formerly even a target for Real Madrid and Manchester United. Given, how Tottenham have failed to win any silverware in the past few years, Berbatov thinks the Spurs forward should strongly consider his future options.

“I see a lot of similarities in the situation I went through and what is happening with Kane. I feel that it’s also a similar time in his career that I was at, you start to think if you’re on the right path and you think about winning things,” he told Betfair. “There is a strong connection between Spurs and Manchester United, Teddy Sherringham was at Tottenham then went to Old Trafford, I was a Spurs striker and went to United and now Kane, who’s also a striker, is being linked with a move there.”

United are once again linked with Kane but a move for the centre-forward could prove difficult due to his £150m asking price. Tottenham are aware of just how valuable Kane is and will demand a premium sum. Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy has also declined to conclude any transfer business with the Red Devils since Berbatov’s sale in 2008.

Ole Solskjaer will be aiming to bring in players more suited to his style, like he did with Bruno Fernandes this past winter. Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish rank very high on his shortlist of likely signings for the upcoming summer. While Kane could spearhead his attack, signing him would make it impossible for United to sign the others.
