5 things you didn't know about Marcus Rashford
Atharva Gosavi

The Premier League has already commenced and Liverpool, one of the firm favourites to win the trophy this season, have already started off with a 4-1 victory over Norwich City. Coming to their bitter rivals Manchester United, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are raring to go at Chelsea in their first clash, in a bid to win over their disappointed fans following a lacklustre summer.

One of that lot waiting to prove the doubters wrong is none other than Manchester’s very own Marcus Rashford. Born and brought up in the city, the 21-year-old is supposedly the big hope expected to deliver goals following the departure of Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan.

And, before he starts scoring at will, let’s have a peek into his life to know about things many of us might be unaware about.

5. Marcus Rashford and Wayne Rooney
Marcus Rashford was handed the number 10 shirt at Old Trafford last season, which previously belonged to all-time leading goalscorer and legend, Wayne Rooney. Well, could he follow into the footsteps of his compatriot and break that 253-goal barrier at the club? While only time will answer that question, there are already signs that he could.

Rashford scored his first goal for the senior team against Midtjylland when he was aged 18 years and 120 days. Apparently, that’s exactly how old Rooney was when he netted his first goal for Manchester United against Fenerbache back in 2004.

Well, well, well…4. Depeche Mode
Every football stadium has different songs playing at different tune for individual players. Old Trafford is no different in that case.

When it comes to Marcus Rashford, the United faithful are frequently singing a tribute to him in the tune of Depeche Mode’s 1981 hit ‘Just Can’t Get Enough’. Rashford was born some 16 years later after the song was released and we wonder if he has the faintest idea of how old the tune of his chant is!3. A specialist in debuts
Debuting as a professional footballer is an important and cherishing moment for every player. Every footballer aims to mark his debut with a special performance he can fondly remember when he hangs up his boots in the future.

Marcus Rashford has gained mastery when it comes to impressing the fans on his debuts. The 21-year-old scored a brace on his European debut against Midtjylland in the Europa League and also netted another in his Premier League debut against Arsenal.

He also scored the only goal and the winner in his first Manchester derby. Then again, he also found the net for England in his first game against Australia. It doesn’t stop here though.

Rashford has also scored on his debuts for England’s U21 and Manchester United youth teams as well. A specialist in debuts, isn’t he?2. Rashford could have played for Manchester City
In his tender years, Marcus Rashford played for Fletcher Moss Rangers, one of the most well-known clubs for producing youngsters in South Manchester. Former United players Danny Welbeck, Tyler Blackett and Wes Brown also played for the club.

While his time with that club, both Manchester giants were keeping an eye on the Englishman. In the end, Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen agreed convinced the youngster to choose Old Trafford as his next destination.

One can definitely say that wasn’t a bad decision, after all.1. He shares his birthday with a number of legends
It’s always a thing of pride to know that a certain celebrity or a star was born on the same date as you. Rashford has been blessed in that sense.

The United forward was born on 31st October 1997. 31st October also happens to be the day  Halloween.

Rashford shares his birthday with a number of footballing legends like Carlos Dunga, Marco Van Basten, Guti and Dennis Irwin. The late Argentine striker Emiliano Sala was also born on the same date.
