Are Manchester United Taking an Uninspired Approach by Signing Ajax Players

Erik Ten Hag has been the Manchester United manager since April 2022. During his first 3 months in the team, the new manager revealed some of his thoughts and plans for next year and beyond. The main goal is one: for Manchester United to fight for titles once again. This is one of the most historic clubs in the U.K, and around the world.

But, during the last few years, the team isn’t performing as well as its fans expect. And, the signing of Erik Ten Hag has been a turning point for the team. Not only when it comes to the play style and transfer approach, but also financially.

In fact, the chief executive of Manchester United, Richard Arnold, recently claimed that the team faced an unpleasant truth. Recently Manchester United has spent almost a billion pounds on transfers, more than any other team in Europe. And according to Arnold this had to change.

The amounts that will probably be spend for Ajax players

Erik Ten Hag was appointed to bring this change. One of the first signing attempts of Manchester United under his leadership is to approach Ajax players. Let’s start by analysing the amounts that will be probably spent on such transfers.

It’s no secret that the biggest football clubs in Europe spend millions of pounds every year to sign players that have the potential to become stars in the near future. There are many reasons why football, as the king of sports, allows such investments.

In 2022, online football betting is one of the main reasons why the football industry is so successful. In fact, betting is now accessible to pretty much anywhere around the world. For example, online football betting in Zambia has been becoming increasingly popular and the Premier League is by far the most well-known league worldwide, and most bet on league in the world.

This is one of the main reasons why Manchester United has the budget needed to sign the best players. Of course, the amount won’t be the same as the previous transfer periods. And Erik Ten Hag’s intention to sign Ajax players is a step in that direction.

How the hiring of Erik Ten Hag affects Manchester United transfer approach

As a well-known manager, Erik Ten Hag has worked with 3 clubs in the Netherlands, Ajax, Utrecht, Go Ahead Eagles. His manager career though started from Twente FC where he was the assistant manager for 2 years. After that he was one of the assistant managers of PSV for another 3 years.

What that means, is that Ten Hag has a deep understanding on how the Dutch market works. As Ajax’s manager during the previous season he has also worked with multiple players that have the potential to shine in the Premier League.

Apart from that, Ten Hag doesn’t look only at players from Ajax. For example, Manchester United seems to be interested in Ibrahim Sangare from PSV Eindhoven. But no one can blame United’s manager for trusting the dutch market for his first transfer window in England.

After all, Robin Van Percy, Dennis Bergham and Ruud Van Nisterlrooy were just a few of the stars that played in the Premier League after starting their career in the Netherlands.

Most likely Ajax players to join Manchester United

It is reasonable for a coach to trust and believe in players who has already worked with. And Ten Hag is not an exception. This is why Manchester United has already approached Ajax and is about to sign Ten Hag’s favourites.

Even though nothing is confirmed just yet, Manchester United has reached a verbal agreement for Lisandro Martinez and also approached Ajax for Antony. Rumours say that Manchester is also interested in signing Jurrien Timber.

It becomes obvious that Erik Ten Hag believes that multiple Ajax players can help Manchester United regain its previous glory and achieve its future goals. Is signing Ajax players the right approach for Manchester United? In fact, there are people saying that this is nothing but an uninspired approach.

Will this approach be successful?

Of course, no one can predict the future. So it wouldn’t be safe to assume that this approach will prove to be successful or not. But in any case, Manchester United isn’t only approaching Ajax during this transfer window. There are other rumours for international players.

For example, Frenkie De Jong, Daniel Bachmann, Ibrahim Sangare and Christian Eriksen are only a few of Manchester United’s possible transfers.

As long as the team finds a good balance between Ajax players and transfers from other teams, Manchester United could have found the perfect (and most of all, affordable) recipe.
