Jose Mourinho wants trio to stay at Manchester United

He is confident club can convince them to stay

Futures of the players like Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba and Marcus Rashford has been called into questions in recent weeks but Manchester United are in danger of seeing Luke Shaw, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera leave for free as their contracts expire at the end of the season.

Shaw was heavily linked with an exit before the transfer deadline as he struggled to establish himself under Jose Mourinho in the previous seasons. But he wanted to stay in order to prove himself and has been excellent so far this season, featuring in all the fixtures.

Both Mata and Herrera have struggled to feature regularly for the Red Devils this season as their is lots of competition in the midfield area. Questions have been asked over their future as whether they are in long term plans of the club.

However, Mourinho wants the trio to stay at Old Trafford beyond this season and is very confident that United can convince them to stay.

“I hope they will stay,” the Portuguese said as quoted by Goal. “We had a similar conversation last season about Marouane [Fellaini] and I was always saying I hope he stays, I believe he stays. I say the same. I hope they stay.

“Of course, I am happy with the players. Luke’s evolution made us believe he goes in the right direction and of course I want to keep him.

“Juan and Ander, even if they are not playing or not playing a lot, not starting matches, by the personality point-of-view and character point-of-view, by what they represent in the modern society in football, they are almost unique pieces that I also don’t want to lose.”
