Manchester United could sign World Cup star this summer

The player has been backed to be a hit at Old Trafford

Manchester United were interested in signing Inter Milan’s winger Ivan Perisic last summer as Jose Mourinho wanted a natural wide player in the squad.

The winger nearly joined the Red Devils but their refusal to pay the Italian side’s £50 million for him ultimately saw the deal collapse.

The Croatia International featured regularly for the Serie A giants last season, scoring 11 goals and assisted 9 in 37 league games and helped them to finish in the top four.

The 29 year old has been one of the standout players for his Nation in this year’s World Cup, scoring 3 goals and assisting 1 and helped them to reach the finals after defeating England.

The player even scored in the finals against France but the Les Bleus came out as the winners in the last match of the tournament.

His impressive performances in Russia has again reportedly put him back in Mourinho’s radar and has again been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Former Chelsea boss even praised the forward’s displays during the World Cup. He said:

“Perisic is the kind of winger that is different to the others.

“Normally you look at wingers and they are just fast and creative. But he is also physical, very physical. Fantastic in the air.

“So the way he wins that ball in the air [for Mandzukic’s goa against Englandl] and puts the ball into that space is only possible if you are very, very physical and dominant over defenders.

“So he was amazing by going there and winning that ball in the air.”

ESPN FC pundit Stewart Robson believes the Portuguese manager will sign Perisic before the transfer window closes.

“Alexis Sanchez plays in his position,” he said as quoted by dailystar.

“He [Sanchez] didn’t do particularly well last season.

“Perisic, there was talk about him going to Manchester United last year.

“I think he had a good enough World Cup for Manchester United to be interested again.

“I think he will go to United and he will be a hit.”
