According to reports, Manchester United are interested in signing Atletico Madrid captain Diego Godin. The Red Devils also made an offer to sign Godin on the deadline day of the summer transfer window. However, nothing happened and Godin stayed at Atletico Madrid.

Nevertheless, Manchester United have renewed their interested in the Uruguayan centre-back and want him at Old Trafford. Manchester United are willing to spend £20 million on Godin.

Jose Mourinho has wanted a quality centre-back at Manchester United since the summer. He was keen on roping in either Toby Alderweireld or Harry Maguire. However, Manchester United could not buy any defender during the summer.

Manchester United’s defence hasn’t been their best area this season as they have conceded 21 goals in 12 Premier League matches. Last season, they conceded only 6 goals at this stage in the Premier League.

Additionally, there are also doubts over Chris Smalling’s future at the club as his current contract runs out next summer and Smalling wants a new contract with higher wages. Everton have shown interest in signing Smalling.

Smalling has probably been Manchester United’s best defender this season so far. Hence, his departure would be a big blow for the club.

Either way, the addition of a quality left-back would bolster Manchester United’s defence and Diego Godin could be a suitable addition to the team.

One of the best defenders in the world at present, Godin has done brilliantly for Atletico Madrid this season so far. Thanks to his commanding of the defence, Atletico Madrid have conceded only 8 goals so far which is the least number of goals any team has conceded in the La Liga.

Besides his defensive responsibilities, Godin has also bagged two goals and has provided an assist this season so far.

Godin’s current contract expires next summer. However, given his form, Atletico Madrid will try to keep him.
