Manchester United is reportedly interested in signing Roma’s defensive star, Gianluca Mancini, in January. The 27-year-old has been a key player in Roma’s defense, shining under Jose Mourinho. United is looking for a reliable partner for Raphael Varane, with Mancini emerging as the favourite.
According to sources, Mancini’s current market worth is £18 million, which United can afford. However, Roma’s owners are demanding a higher fee, ranging from £9 million to £13 million, in order to allow the transfer during the upcoming January window.
Mancini has captained Roma in the absence of Lorenzo Pellegrini, showing not only defensive abilities but also impressive ability on the ball. Despite Varane’s presence, United appears to be considering Mancini as a possible replacement, despite the Frenchman’s recent deterioration.
As talk develops, there’s a possibility that Varane is looking for a fresh challenge, with a move to Saudi Arabia on the table. This might allow United to reinvest the revenue and strengthen their squad.
While Mourinho may be reluctant to sell his best asset in the middle of the season, Roma may not protest if United pays the asking price. The January transfer window holds exciting possibilities for both clubs and the energetic defense.
