Former Manchester United star Roy Keane has called on the club to make a summer move for Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone
Keane, who captained the Red Devils to nine major titles during his playing career at Old Trafford, has been a vocal critic of United’s current trajectory.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, his former teammate, was fired as United’s head coach earlier this season, and Ralf Rangnick was brought in as a temporary replacement.
However, with Rangnick set to become a football consultant ahead of the 2022/23 season, United require a permanent manager, and Keane feels Simeone would be ideal.
The United legend had a lot to share regarding this particular opinion:
“Maybe Simeone, he’s the right kind of character. He’s having a difficult spell at Atletico and maybe his race is run with them”,
“Simeone, go and get him, he’s a big character. He’s done great things.
“He doesn’t mess around with players. Maybe someone like him coming in could work.
Simeone has had a rough season with Los Rojiblancos out of contention to retain their La Liga crown in the coming weeks. Because of his erratic play, Simeone’s next move in the Spanish capital as they aim for a Top Four finish has sparked curiosity.
The Argentine’s current contract with Real Madrid expires at the end of the 2022/23 season, but he might be enticed by a fresh challenge if United match his current pay in Madrid.
