Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised PSG, saying that the Parisians are on a whole new level to Manchester United.

Solskjaer faced his first defeat as Manchester United manager as PSG comfortably defeated the Red Devils 0-2 at Old Trafford last night. They did so despite the absence of Neymar and Edinson Cavani.

After a goalless first half, Presnel Kimpembe scored his first ever goal for PSG to give them the lead in the 53rd minute. Seven minutes later, Kylian Mbappe doubled PSG’s lead.

Some remarkable goalkeeping by David de Gea prevented PSG from scoring more goals.

On the end, PSG ran out easy winners and now have a massive chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals now.

Following the match, Solskjaer said, “Today we weren’t at the level. This was a level up from what we’ve played against. We’ve had a great run, we came into this game in a great frame, on great form, but of course this was a big step up. There is a reason behind them being one of the favourites for the Champions League. That’s the level we need to aim for at this club.”

Despite the defeat, Solskjaer feels that his side still have a chance of qualifying for the quarter-finals. The Norwegian said, “At this club you bounce back, you have to bounce back. We are in a difficult tournament, whoever you play against, but our bread and butter is the league and then the FA Cup against Chelsea, there’s so many games to play for.

When we go down there to Paris, we’ll give it a go. Of course it’s a difficult, difficult mountain to climb but it’s not impossible, if we get to half-time with a 1-0 lead that’s what we’ve got to look for.”

Manchester United play the second leg at Paris on March 7. Before that, they play four matches. The first one of them is their FA Cup 5th round match against Chelsea on Monday.
