Jose Mourinho confirms the player wants to leave Manchester United

The player has been heavily linked with summer exit

Matteo Darmian joined Manchester United from Torino for an undisclosed fee believed to be £12.7 million, signing a 4 year contract with an option to extend it by further 1 year in 2015.

The Italy International made significant contributions during his first 2 seasons with the Red Devils despite not being a regular starter for them.

But the 28 year old struggled to make an impression under Jose Mourinho and fell behind the pecking order last season, with the manager preferring Antonio Valencia ahead of him. He just managed to make 16 appearances in all competitions.

The Premier League giants have already completed the signing of teenage full back Diogo Dalot from Porto few weeks ago which indicates that the Italian’s future at Old Trafford might be over.

Though the defender’s contract expires at the end of the next season and has the option to sign on for an extra year at Old Trafford. But the Portuguese manager is prepared to let him go as he is not part of his first team plans.

He has featured in the pre-season matches but has been heavily linked with a return to his homeland, with Juventus, Inter and Napoli interested in him.

But Mourinho has confirmed that Darmian wants to leave United this summer but the club won’t sell him unless they receive a good offer.

[Darmian was given the captaincy] because he is a fantastic guy in my two years and with Mr [Louis] van Gaal before me,” he told reporters as quoted by Goal.

“He is the kind of guy who is always ready to give what he has, he grew up in AC Milan and to play against his child club and be captain in a friendly has a nice meaning.

“Matteo wants to leave and I think when a player wants to leave, if the right offer arrives you have to try to be human and let the player follow his instinct but not at any price. And, until now, the offers we got for Matteo are not even close to being accepted.”
