Manchester United legend believes the club needs two deadline day deals

The Red Devils have completed three signings this summer

Manchester United are looking to bolster their squad in the transfer window after an underwhelming campaign last season, not winning a single silverware. They finished second in the Premier League, 19 points behind Manchester City.

The Red Devils are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window and they have already completed three signings, teenage full-back Diogo Dalot has signed from Porto, while a £52.5 million fee has been agreed with Shakhtar Donetsk for Brazil international Fred and Lee Grant from Stoke City.

The Premier League giants have been heavily linked with a move for players like Willian, Toby Alderweireld, Harry maguire etc as Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen key positions before the transfer window closes. But he has been frustrated till now as they have failed to sign anyone with transfer deadline approaching.

United legend Wayne Rooney believes they need two deadline day deals and feels the club are only few players short to mount a Premier League title challenge in the upcoming season.

Club’s all-time leading goalscorer told Sky Sports: “I think it will be difficult after the season they had last year. They [Manchester City] have been playing some great football.

“But I hope someone can catch them – it would be nice, so hopefully Manchester United can. I think maybe another signing or two.”

He added: “I am sure Jose (Mourinho) has been getting the team right.

“I know there has been a lot of talk about pre-season in the press but I am sure behind the scenes, Jose has been giving them the right amount of work.

“They have the game against Leicester on Friday so hopefully they can go one step further this year than second and try and get the title back.”
