Chris Sutton urges Marcus Rashford to depart Manchester United amidst performance concerns

Chris Sutton, a pundit for BBC Sport, provided his thoughts on Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United. The former Chelsea striker believes that Rashford needs to think about leaving Old Trafford at the age of 26.

Sutton said about Rashford on the It’s All Kickoff Off podcast: “He looks tormented at this moment in time. I think for him and his career, at this moment in time he looks bored and stale.

“I think he is a player who needs a move away from Old Trafford and a fresh challenge.

“This was a debate doing the rounds a couple of seasons ago, but he just seems to be meandering along.

“There are questions about his work ethic within the team and I think that’s a totally legitimate question and criticism.

“He doesn’t look like he is working hard enough. I think he is a player who needs a fresh challenge.”

Sutton’s criticism is based on what he perceives to be Rashford’s inconsistent effort on the field, stressing the necessity for a player of his calibre to make a more meaningful contribution to the team.

Sutton believes that Rashford’s current form is lacking substantially, although noting the forward’s past exceptional performances.

The demand for Rashford’s departure comes amid worries raised by other football players, such as Mikel John Obi, which adds into the speculation surrounding the player’s future with the top Premier League team.

With 254 Premier League appearances under his belt, Rashford has clearly left his mark on Manchester United since joining the team in 2005.

But according to Sutton, Rashford has to improve his consistency if he wants to realize his full potential as he enters what are thought of as his prime years.

It remains to be seen if the gifted forward will take Sutton’s advice and look for possibilities outside of Old Trafford as the discussion about Rashford’s future picks up steam.
