David De Gea has been handed a huge boost

The Goalkeeper is in line to start for Spain against England

Manchester United signed Goalkeeper David De Gea from Atletico Madrid in 2011 to replace Edwin Van Der Sar, who retired form active football that year only. Sir Alex Ferguson even missed a League Cup match to travel to Spain to watch him in action before deciding to sign him up.

The 27 year old had a rocky start in England but since then he has established himself as a key player for the club. He has been the best player for the Red Devils for the last few seasons, winning a record-breaking four Player of the Year awards with the club.

The Spaniard was one of the standout players for the English side last season, keeping 18 clean sheets in the league and was presented his first ever Premier League Golden Glove award.

He has been a model of consistency in recent years, with his shot-stopping ability having helped the club to many precious points during a testing period on and off the field. He is arguably considered the best goalkeeper in the world right now.

The Red Devils received a huge boost during the summer, when Real Madrid completed the signing of Thibaut Courtois  from Chelsea. The La Liga giants were interested in signing the Spaniard for a very long time but it looks he will stay at Old Trafford for a long time.

However, he didn’t had the best World Cup as he managed to make only 1 save and Spain were eliminated in the round of 16. Some pundits questioned whether he should lose his starting place in the national team to Chelsea record-signing Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Spanish national team manager Luis Enrique has assured De Gea that he will remain the number one.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future but that’s a position I haven’t had any doubts about,” Enrique said as quoted by Manchester Evening News. “Never.”
