Tottenham Hotspur and France captain Hugo Lloris has defended Paul Pogba, saying that the midfielder is unfairly judged by his transfer fee.

Paul Pogba returned to Manchester United from Juventus in 2016 at what was at that time, a world record transfer fee of £89m.

Following his World Cup exploits, a lot was expected from Pogba this season. However, so far, the Frenchman has not replicated his performances in Russia for Manchester United this season. Pogba has faced tremendous criticism for Manchester United’s shaky start to the season with many questioning his loyalty to the club.

Lloris came to Pogba’s defence by telling that the transfer fee has a lot to do with the criticism that Pogba receives.

Lloris said, “He has a status in the UK, maybe because of his huge transfer fee. I think his performances at United are far from being as bad as people say. He is part of a team which has worse results than we could have expected, that’s for sure.”

Pogba will hope to impress for Manchester United when they take on Chelsea on Saturday.
