Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has signed a new five-year deal with the club. Shaw will be at Old Trafford till 2023 and will reportedly earn £150,000. Shaw joined Manchester United from Southampton in 2014 for £27 million.

However, injuries limited his appearances for the club and it seemed that Shaw would leave the club after his contract expired next summer. However, the 23-year old has performed brilliantly this season so far. Shaw’s performances have resulted in his recall to the national team and this new contract.

Manchester United will need Shaw as they try to regroup after a poor start to the Premier League this season. From 8 matches, the Red Devils have gained only 13 points and are 7 points behind rivals Manchester City.

After signing the contract, Shaw said that Manchester United will soon return to top form. The 23-year old said, “I can’t wait to continue my progress under Jose Mourinho. I personally think it’s only a matter of time until the success is going to be coming back. We have an amazing group of players and the talent we have is scary. There are a lot of young lads that are hungry for trophies.”

Jose Mourinho who previously dissed Shaw publicly, praised him and sad that the left-back deserved the contract. He said, “Luke fully deserves this contract. I am delighted that we are keeping such a talented young English player with a bright future ahead of him.”

Manchester United play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge tomorrow.
