Jose Mourinho defended by one of his former players

The Portuguese has been a cut a frustrating figure this season

Jose Mourinho was appointed as Manchester United manager back in 2016, taking over the charge from Louis Van Gaal. He guided the team to win League and Europa League, which ensured their return to the Champions League.

The Red Devils finished second in the Premier League behind Manchester City last season, their highest ever since Sir Alex Ferguson retired. They also reached the FA Cup final but were beaten by Chelsea.

The manager wanted quality additions during this summer transfer window after signing the likes of Nemanja Matic, Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Paul Pogba etc in the the past transfer windows. Diogo Dalot, Fred and Lee Grant joined the squad this summer.

But the club failed to sign any more players the Portuguese wanted, especially a high profile centre-back and openly expressed his disappointment for not getting the players.

The Premier League giants have had a mixed start to this season, winning 3 games from Premier League so far. The former Chelsea manager cut a frustrated figure at the start of the 2018-19 campaign, with a disappointing transfer window souring his mood.

Asmir Begovic considers Mourinho to be the best and feels he wants success more than anyone else.

Begovic, who worked with him at Chelsea, believes United still have the right man at the helm, telling Goals on Sunday:  “He’s a very passionate, emotional manager.

“He’s emotional, he feels everything. When things aren’t going his well or right for the team then he feels that.

“He wants success more than anyone and wants the whole team to do really well. I think in that aspect you maybe saw that in some of his actions and stuff.”

He added: “Great guy, yeah. Absolutely loved playing for him. My favourite ever manager to play for.

“His character, loves to joke, loves to be funny, but at the same time he gets his message across.

“If he needs to say something the other way and have a pop at you or say it how it is, he just says the truth, he just says how it is and says it in front of everyone.

“I think that’s what most players respect as well.”
